Rising hooliganism in our schools forces us to ask a hard
question: are we responding to today’s challenges with
yesterday’s solutions?
Student misconduct is often treated purely as a discipline issue,
but it is also a digital safety conversation. Today’s children are
growing up in a highly connected world where smartphones
and online content can influence attitudes, behaviour, and
emotional responses. Addressing behaviour without addressing
digital influence leaves part of the problem unsolved.
A few weeks ago on TV3 Ghana’s The Afternoon Show,
Emmanuel Adinkra- CISM MCSE PMP , President of
Ghana Internet Safety Foundation, highlighted why
parenting in the digital age must go beyond punishment. When children are given internet-enabled devices, they also need
guidance, clear boundaries, and open conversations.
As conversations continue about safety and behaviour in our
schools, we must also pay attention to the digital environments
shaping young minds.
