AI chatbots, image generators and smart apps are now part of children’s everyday lives. GISF helps children, parents and teachers understand these tools, use them well and recognise the risks.
AI can support learning, creativity and opportunity. It also brings new risks for children: deepfakes and AI-generated sexual images, convincing misinformation, chatbots that give harmful advice or encourage unhealthy attachment, and the collection of personal data children don’t understand. Most young people in Ghana are already using AI tools, often without guidance at school or at home.
Our programme is grounded in UNICEF’s Policy Guidance on AI for Children and the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child’s General Comment No. 25 on children’s rights in the digital environment. We work with schools, parents and national institutions so that children’s rights and safety are part of how AI is used in Ghana.
