In many homes, children are taught how to cross the street
safely long before they are taught how to navigate the internet.
Yet today, children are growing up in a digital world where
exposure often happens earlier, and faster than many caregivers
can keep up with. Globally, estimates suggest that 1 in 3
internet users is a child, with many exposed to harmful or
inappropriate content before the age of 13.
Through the CyberMums Initiative Ghana Internet Safety
Foundation (GISF), in collaboration with Digital Aid
International, Praesidio Safeguarding, and the National
Council of Parent Teacher Associations, brings digital safety
directly into communities, where awareness turns into action.
In marketplace settings, mothers paused between daily
activities to engage in conversations on online exploitation,
digital risks, and practical ways to protect their children. Many
asked questions, sought clarity, and left with one key
understanding: online safety begins with simple, intentional steps at home.
Delivered in local languages and grounded in real-life experiences, these conversations made digital safety more relatable and accessible for everyday caregivers.Within the CyberMums Initiative, the focus remains simple: no caregiver should be left out of the conversation on online
safety.
