Accra, Ghana – The Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons was the chosen venue for the inauguration of Ghana’s Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October 2023. The event, highlighting Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its digital defenses, was attended by the Ghana Internet Safety Foundation (GISF) and a host of other local and international agencies.
This collaborative gathering in the heart of Accra showcased the nation’s collective ambition to promote cybersecurity awareness. The event served as a nexus for various organizations to share insights, strategize, and outline future plans to mitigate cyber threats and advocate for safe online practices.
While Gabriel Ofori Appiah, Director-Operations at GISF, did not address the general attendees, he held significant discussions with key stakeholders, policymakers, and lawmakers. He emphasized the urgency of pushing the Child Online Protection (COP) agenda in Ghana, highlighting its importance in the current digital age and the need for robust policies to ensure the safety of the nation’s youth online.
Dr. Albert Antwi Bosiako, the CEO of the Ghana Cybersecurity Authority, expressed her appreciation for the collective dedication of all the agencies involved. “The digital realm is dynamic, and the challenges it poses are ever-evolving. Our united front and collaborative efforts are crucial in staying ahead of these challenges and ensuring the safety of our citizens,” she articulated.
Throughout October, Ghana will host a range of workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns across the country. These initiatives aim to educate individuals, businesses, and institutions on the importance of cybersecurity and equip them with the tools and knowledge to protect themselves in the digital world.
The Cybersecurity Awareness Month is not just a national initiative; it’s a call to action for every Ghanaian to be vigilant and proactive in their online activities. With the combined efforts of GISF, the Ghana Cybersecurity Authority, and all associated agencies, the goal of a cyber-secure Ghana is within reach.
